Once again, Fayette County-based Offshoot Productions is offering a stimulating theatre camp in conjunction with the Tyrone Recreation Department. The camp meets July 20 to 24 from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m. and focuses on the creation of “The Cinderella Chronicles.” Developed through improvisation, the play will provide a new take on the familiar story when two children find Cinderella’s diaries.
Participants aged 7 to 15 will learn important theatre techniques as they enjoy creating the characters--human, animal and fantastical--that populate Cinderella=s life. With an emphasis on character development and ensemble performance, the camp is suitable both for those with theatre experience and for newcomers to the stage. There are challenging role for both male and female campers.
The young actors will be divided into age-appropriate groups for many exercises and character development, then come together to rehearse the play, working toward an informal performance at the end of the last class.
Campers should bring a mid-afternoon snack and beverage, and wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Instructors include Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D., producing artistic director of Offshoot Productions, who brings more than three decades of teaching and directing experience to the project, and Paige Steadman, Offshoot’s resident composer and musical director, who is an actor in the company’s professional improvisation troupe.
The cost of the camp is $98. For registration, contact Tyrone Recreation at (770) 487-4694 or tyronerec@tyrone.org. For information on camp content, contact Offshoot Productions at (770 631-2362 or offshootpr@aol.com.
