Coweta: Backstage Players to Perform "Hello Dolly!"
The Backstage Players of Northgate Senior High are proud to present their annual spring musical production, “Hello Dolly!” The play will run three evenings: Thursday, May 13th, Friday, May 14th and Saturday, May 15th at The Centre For Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan. All shows start at 7 p.m.
“This should be a wonderful show – the students have been working so hard and rehearsing for a few months. Their energy levels are ‘at the top’ and we look forward to a great turn out for Hello, Dolly!” according to Drama Teacher Melanie Bruner.
“Hello Dolly!” is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi’s efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-a-millionaire and to send Horace’s money circulating among the people like rainwater, the way her late husband, Ephraim Levi, taught her. Along the way, Dolly succeeds in matching up the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder’s head clerk, Cornelius Hackle; Cornelius’ assistant , Barnaby Tucker, with Mrs. Molloy’s assistant, Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist, Ambrose Kemper, with Mr. Vandergelder’s weeping niece, Ermengarde. When everyone shows up at the swanky restaurant The Harmonia Gardens, mayhem ensues. Dolly is greeted by the waiters, cooks, doormen and wine stewards in one of the most famous songs in the history of American musical comedy, “Hello, Dolly!”
Classical musical numbers include “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Ribbons Down My Back,” “Before The Parade Passes By,” “Elegance,” “It Only Takes A Moment,” “So Long, Dearie,” and “Hello, Dolly!”
Coweta’s Centre For Performing Arts is located at 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road, Newnan, Georgia. Show dates are Thursday, May 13th, Friday, May 14th and Saturday, May 15th. "Les Miserables" School Edition Auditions May 3rd and 4th
The Twilight Theatre is proud to announce auditions for "Les Miserables", the School Edition. Auditions are open to ages 8-19, and show dates are July 16, 17, 30, and 31 at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City. Auditions will be held Monday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 4 at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church from 4:30 to 8:30. A large cast of 60-100 is required, and families are encouraged to audition together. Audition requirements and a character breakdown can be found on Twilight's website.
This is not the first time Twilight has mounted a production of "Les Miserables". In 2007, their highly acclaimed production resulted in Twilight being voted Fox 5's "Best Theatre 2007". Alison Chambers, Twilight's Artistic Director and the director of "Les Miserables", says the show is being brought back due to popular demand. "A lot of the kids involved last time said the show changed their lives and made them grow as an actor more than any other they have ever done. We made the decision that we should do this show every three years to give everyone we can the opportunity. It's not often that folks this age get to take part in such a vocally and emotionally demanding show - it's quite a challenge," Chambers states.

Atlanta: You’re Hiding the Next Young Michael Jackson and Debbie Allen is Going to Find Him
Debbie Allen, who is directing the Alliance Theatre’s new musical Twist this fall, will hold an open vocal call for Atlanta children this Saturday, May 1. Twist, a hot new musical twist on the Dickens classic Oliver Twist, tells the story of an orphan in New Orleans in the 1920s who finds family in the most unexpected places. The casting call will audition local children for a number of roles in the musical, including the title role of Twist, principle role of Pistol, and a children’s ensemble.
Debbie Allen, award-winning director/choreographer (Fame), returns to the Alliance for Twist, following her hugely successful Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (winner of the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Revival). She previously has directed at the Alliance in the 2000 production of Soul Possessed.
“Debbie is thrilled to see the newest young talent here in Atlanta,” said Jody Feldman, Alliance Theatre Associate Producer. “It’s not often that we get to showcase so many children in a show like this. This is a great opportunity for the talented young actors and actresses of Atlanta.” Twist will open the Alliance’s 2010-11 Season on September 1, 2010.

In Atlanta, MARY POPPINS will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Matinees will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. NCTC Announces Auditions for "Pscyho Beach Party"
The campy comedy “Psycho Beach Party” by Charles Busch will be performed at the Newnan Community Theatre Company this summer. The play is a fun spoof of 1960s beach movies with a slight Hitchcock twist.
Auditions for the show are Sunday, May 9, and Monday, May 10, at the theatre. There are speaking roles for 12 males and females, ages 18-30. Additionally, dancers are needed to perform during set changes and one scene. Auditions will be from 7 to 9 pm. Actors may attend either evening to try out for a role.
"Psycho Beach Party" is being directed by Jeff Allen. The show dates are June 25, 26, 27 and July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18. Show time is 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturdays and 2:30 on Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students/seniors, and $8 for children. “Psycho Beach Party” contains mature content. NCTC is located at 24 1st Avenue in downtown Newnan.
